Mid-Anglia Engineering has been a leader in battery manufacturing machinery for over 40 years, including Gauntlet Forming Machines. We’ve produced 13 production systems to date for customers around the world.

Our Gauntlet Forming machines are designed to allow for the accurate and consistent forming of gauntlets (tubular bags) from sewn non-woven polyester fabric, which are used in industrial batteries.

Battery Manufacturing

The basic principle of our machines:

Fabric is heated on special forming rods and the fabric is allowed to cool and form on these rods.

A slip forming process is then implemented where the fabric and forming rods are drawn through the machine via pneumatic cylinders and clamping blocks.

Forming rods are then pushed back within the fabric via push rods and odd/even clamping techniques.

The now cured formed product is then extended past the forming rods where it can be cut to length using a hot wire cutting system.

Products are then dropped onto an exit conveyor for collection or conveyed to the next process.

Two or four products can be made with each cycle of the machine depending on the length required.

PRODUCTION

The machine is capable of producing a full range of gauntlets with the correct tooling. We supply both

standard (S) tooling and glued edge (GE) tooling.

Gauntlets can be 125mm to 700mm long.

Tooling is designed to be quickly interchangeable and to be hard wearing giving long service life.

 

Production rates vary on product being formed. Length has the largest impact on production rates; if products are 350mm or shorter, 4 off products can be processed in one cycle. If longer, then 2 products are processed per cycle.

 

As a guideline, the top performance of the machine is rated at 6 metres of fabric processed per minute. (Up to 14 Gauntlets per minute dependent on length selected).
